Give Annual Funds another Look

Share it Please
As fundraisers, we’re often on the lookout for strategies we can implement that can help us achieve our organization’s goals. Having the cash on hand to pay the overhead necessary to push work on these goals forward naturally goes a long way to ensuring success, and a recent survey by the Nonprofit Research Collaborative has found annual funds to be highly effective in this regard.

The primary reason behind an annual fund’s effectiveness is the high renewal rates they enjoy. According to the survey, 63 percent of the organizations with annual funds had 60 percent or more donors renew their yearly commitments. This assured these organizations of continuous cash flow year after year, allowing them to set reasonable goals assured of the fact that the money required to meet those goals would be there when they needed it.
In addition to the high renewal rates, the number of donors who upgraded their yearly gifts also increased the effectiveness of annual funds. The survey found that 36 percent of organizations saw between 5 and 10 percent of their donors upgrade, and 23 percent reported their upgrading members at 11 to 15 percent.

In contrast, giving donor premiums did little to improve success rates at meeting fundraising goals. Similarly, offering membership and donor benefits did not affect this metric as well.

  1. You do not know how much trouble I am having with our non-profit's eBay Giving Works Donation account - all our non-profits accounts are tied together - and eBay is still trying to take money from our non-profits account for the sales. eBay reps do not know what to do, I have been sick and tired of this frustration for more than 5-weeks now. Getting reversals with PayPal, the PayPal rep telling the eBay rep what to do on eBay's end back on the 24th of September and still nothing is done - I am tired of wasting my precious time!!! Our non-profits checking account was overdrawn because of eBay's mistakes - so much for professionalism - and I am tired of the eBay reps reading from cue cards too....
